GIMP 2.3 Tutorial - The User Interface
8th January

This video explains the user interface of the GIMP. The goal of the tutorial is to make you understand how the user interface works, so that you can explore GIMP without being hindered by the user interface. Excuse my abuse of the word 'and'. At 2:48 when I say 'layers', I mean 'dialogs'. The sentence should read: "This is where I usually grab my dialogs." == Tutorial FAQ == Q: I only have one window :( What's wrong? A: By default GIMP is configured to save window positions on exit. If you only get one window when you start GIMP, that's what the saved window configuration is. You can reset this to default by going to 'File / Preferences / Window Management' and clicking the 'Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values' button. Here you can also disable that GIMP should save window configuration on exit, as well as save current window configuration. This way you can make sure that GIMP will always start with a specific window configuration independant of the window configuration you had when you closed GIMP. == Technical/Misc information == The video was created with recordMyDesktop and MEncoder, recorded on the Ubuntu linux distribution (version 6.10) And yeah, unfortunately the sound quality sucks, but I don't feel like a re-recording. Feel free to spread the video in YouTube-embedded format as much as you like.

AirPiano - Musical Interface
8th January

www.airpiano.de The AirPiano is an innovative musical interface which allows playing and controlling software instruments simply by moving hands in the air. Above the AirPiano is a virtual matrix of keys and faders, each assigned with MIDI messages and ready to be triggered. The length of a triggered note is equivalent to the time a hand is placed on the corresponding virtual key. This is also confirmed by LED feedback. The AirPiano Software allows easy setup, loading/saving presets and transposing notes. The AirPiano is still in its prototype phase and its concept of a virtual matrix might eventually be used for other applications and purposes. The AirPiano concept is filled as a Provisional U.S. Patent Application (Number: 60/989,986). Specifications: Polyphonic, MIDI protocol, Up to 24 keys / 8 faders, USB connectivity

BLUI: Blowable user interface
8th January

This is a way to support blowing at a laptop or computer screen to directly control certain interactive applications. Localization estimates are produced in real-time to determine where on the screen the person is blowing. You can do this by using a single microphone, such as those that are already embedded in a standard laptop or one placed near a computer monitor by using audio fingerprinting. reactable: basic demo 1
8th January

http://mtg.upf.edu/reactable The reactable, is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language. This instrument is being developed by a team of digital luthiers (Sergi Jordà , Martin Kaltenbrunner, Günter Geiger and Marcos Alonso), at the Music Technology Group within the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.
Bluetooth Audio Radio Interface
8th January

Update: The B150 headset has been replaced by the B250. I'll show you how to build a bluetooth audio interface to your radio. This gives you hands free operation and allows you to move around the hamshack. The range is typically line of sight, about 20-30 feet depending on how many walls you are having to transmit through. This interface gives you a lot of freedom in the shack to move around, surf, solder, work on projects while on the radio. This uses a Jabra A-210 interface. This interface is made to plug into a cellphone's headset connector to allow a bluetooth headset to work with the cellphone. It is an easy project to interface to your radio's microphone and headphone connector. We have also found the VXI BlueParrott B150 bluetooth headset to provide very good transmit audio. Frank, K7SFN, has documented this interface on his webpage. http://www.k7sfn.com/projects/bluetooth.html Jabra A-210 website - http://www.shop.jabra.com/jabra/Shop?DSP=30100&PCR=1:150&IID=13202&itemskuid=13202&actn=addkeycodetocart&keycode=JABRAPS&gclid=CJuf3YaM8pACFRscawoddUs80w VXI - http://www.blueparrott.com/products/parrottbheadsetcharger.htm
Demonstration of Brain Computer Interface Using the Emotive Epoc

April 9, 2008 lecture by Randy Breen for the Stanford University Computer Systems Colloquium (EE380). The Emotiv EPOC (www.emotiv.com) now makes it possible for games to be controlled and influenced by the player's mind. Engaging, immersive, and nuanced, Emotiv-inspired game-play will be like nothing ever seen before. Based on the latest developments in neuro-technology, Emotiv has developed a new personal interface for human computer interaction. Cingular 8125 "Wizard" with TouchFlo "HTC Touch" interface
8th January

HOW-TO Add TouchFLO to your Phone! First, to determine if you got a G3 or a G4 phone. When you turn on your phone, you will see you're IPL/SPL version on the screen. If the IPL/SPL shows 1.xx or 2.xx you've got a G3 phone. If the IPL/SPL shows 2.xx.xxx1 you've got a G4 phone. DON'T flash the new 3.08 and 3.09 IPL/SPL to your G4! These are the files you need to add the TouchFLO interface to your Cingular 8125 or "Wizard" phone. Follow the instructions carefully or you could Brick your phone. Only download these files if you have a Cingular 8125 G4 Phone: http://rapidshare.com/files/48039428/Installing_NBD_on_a_G4_8125.zip It's about a 60MB file. Now go here for the Latest TouchFLO roms(G3 or G4 phone)... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319751 Goto the Wizard phone thread. In that thread look for the NBD v8.x or newer interface thread. Download the latest NBD roms there. For more info go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613 For future updates, be sure to donate to NBD for his hard work. I prefer the TouchFLO interface over the iPhone. Peace.
